Suleman Bux, now residing in Port Shepstone, recalls the very day he helped a young man and his family during tough times in the 1970s.

WAY back in 1977, little did Ixopo supermarket owner Suleman Bux realise that a desperate young student he helped would eventually go on to become the second most powerful legal personality in the country.

That ‘youth’ is now Judge Raymond Zondo, Deputy Chief Justice.
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng coaxed the heart-warming and inspirational tale out of Judge Zondo when he was being interviewed by a panel for the Deputy Chief Justice job earlier this year.
The video clip is bound to bring a tear to your eye, as it did for Judge Zondo while he was remembering the generosity of a ‘Mr Moosa’ whom he thought had since died.
This is where it gets tearful. ‘Mr Moosa’ (Bux) said that he did not want any repayment: “No, don’t worry, just do to others what I have done for you.”
“I thought that was very important and, in my own small way, I have tried to do that,” said Judge Zondo during the interview.

The Zondo and Bux Educational Trust was formed in October 2017, spontaneously during a dinner, where the idea of a fund was raised for historically disadvantaged kids who share a similar story to Zondo’s.
